At long last, 2020 is slowly coming to an end. We've all been waiting for such an appalling year like this to come to a halt, and so the end finally begins. However, that leaves us all in wonder about what the next year will bring us. I, myself, have been contemplating the plans I've been dreaming up for quite some time now. Needless to say, It's nearly impossible to say that anything is definite at this point. Regardless, I think it's time to share some of the plans that I have for 2021.
We all know what the last several months have been like out in the real world, but we're trying our best to push through such difficult circumstances. Some of you may know that my day job has been requiring a lot more of my attention than usual since this pandemic has started, which has left my creative job pushed to the sidelines. I didn't get to accomplish everything I had hoped for this year, and that's okay. I think we can all relate to that one way or another. I am so glad that I had the chance to release a book this year, along with many other small victories, but that wasn't quite the goal.
Here's a quick recap of the last few months:
In March, I announced the new home for my website, teased a new book, launched an iOS app, and announced that I was going to take a break from recording any spoken word pieces. In May, I hit a huge delay on the book that I mentioned earlier and it was honestly a very disappointing moment for me. Usually, when I'm creating or planning to release something, I plan it obsessively. Every detail is important. However, things just didn't work out the way I expected them to. In June, I finally announced the title and (new) release date of the book, which was honestly so exciting! In July, my team and I worked very hard on a new website update, as well as the release of Heal My Wounds. I never really thought that this release would've been successful because of the pandemic, but I was so blown away by everybody's reaction to it. I am still in shock today! In September, I silently snuck a spoken word release into the world to jumpstart my return to recording again. And that brings us to November. Today, I'm writing this post to hopefully shed light onto the future of my work and get myself excited to release content again.
Before I dive into the plans that I have for next year, I want to put a spotlight on an issue that I've recently discovered with my latest book, Heal My Wounds. Because of the delays, deadlines, and rushing through editing, my team and I have discovered very small, but monumental errors throughout the book. It was a very late catch, and honestly, it took months to find, but we did find them. I was disappointed at first because I worked so hard to create something that meant so much to me and then put it into the world. But after the release being rather successful, I just want to apologize for the grammatical issues that are present in the copies you all have received. My team and I have been working very hard over the last several weeks to push the old copies out of distribution and release the revised version. If you ordered an original copy or placed a pre-order before October 31, 2020, we will gladly give you a 50% discount on a new copy if you'd like. Just send an email to email@example.com with your order date or order number and we will provide you with your discount code once the re-revised copy is in production.
Alright, now that we've taken care of that... Without further ado, I'm very excited to welcome you to the freshly re-designed garettsharp.com and I want to tell you a little bit about the changes we've made. The first thing that you'll notice is that we're a lot brighter now. There's white like literally everywhere. I though that because this year has been so dreadful, we could use a bit of brightness in our life right about now. Well, that, and it's a big step in the right direction for us. I've also created a new hand-drawn logo that's pretty simple, straightforward, and it represents me more than anything else has, honestly. You'll still see the triangle logo from time to time, but this one's taking over. Another thing we've changed a bit is the member profiles. They were getting a bit too cluttered, and I decided that the book club wasn't best move for the focus of my website. Sometimes, I really do go overboard, but I try my best to learn from my mistakes. We did, however, keep the rewards program and I hope you find it useful! The last thing I want to address about the update is the shop. We've decided to take away a lot of the nonsense products from our shop and just focus on Merch that means something. We're keeping the line of beautiful stickers, a few t-shirts, but overall, I wanted to start fresh. I also wanted to have more opportunities to donate to select charities.
Lastly, I am looking forward to seeing what 2021 has in store for all of us. I'm working on a brand new book already, and I also plan to finish writing and recording my second spoken word album. Though nothing is set in stone just yet, I am confident that we will find our way through this together. I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself for next year, but I have set several goals in place that I am very excited to reach. I am so grateful for all of the support and love I have received! Please keep in touch, and keep your eyes peeled for some surprises coming your way.
