On the seventh day of February of 2017, I released my first spoken word piece called 'A Word of Advice'. I spent months writing and re-writing the poem and debating if I should ever record it. Though I did end up releasing it, I was afraid to share my voice with the world. I was anxious and afraid of sharing that part of me. A Word of Advice was one of the first poems I wrote that showcased me being vulnerable and honest. The poem did well on its own but I recorded it to bring it to life. Although it exceeded my expectations statistically, I wasn't sure if I was ever going to record another poem again.
On the eigth day of May of 2017, I released my second spoken word single, Can't Stay. This one was vastly different from the first, as it was much more emotional and sad. Nobody wants to be sad these days. So I didn't expect this poem to go anywhere. But again, I put it out there for the world to hear.
A month later, I kept recording poems. It was becoming an addiction at this point. And with my lack of experience with producing, recording, and of course, funding, I was really afraid to drop my first ever EP. This one was titled 'Fragments'. It is a raw, open interpretation on how I saw myself and I was very heartbroken at the time. Fragments was released on June 30, 2017 with a track featuring a close friend of mine.
Another month passes, and I still haven't stopped writing. I put out one track in July, and then two more in August. Red, Alone, and then my second collaboration poem, Snake In The Grass.
After putting out so much spoken word poetry, I decided it was time to record my first full-length album. This album came out on a very special day. October 13, 2017. With 12 tracks and 14 on the deluxe version, it was my largest accomplishment yet.
On November 25, 2017, I released my final spoken word track of the year called 'Blue'. This track was basically a more sad, less angry version of my previous poem, Red.
Starting off in 2018, I asked one of my friends (the same one I recorded Snake In The Grass with) to write more poems with me. After figuring out the logistics of things, I asked her if she'd possibly like to record them with me. At first, she didn't want to, but after some inspiration we both decided it was time. We released another EP together called 'Blue' featuring the track I released in November.
Since Blue released in January, I've only put out two tracks. Insight and Porcelain. I wanted to take my time and really think about where my life was heading during these releases. I was working on creating another album, writing a new book, and balancing my personal life all at the same time. Things were starting to get a tad overwhelming over the past few months so I've definitely slowed down quite a bit.
I've dropped eight different releases and pushed my career in two different directions simultaneously
I've dropped three different releases and encountered a lot of stress and anxieties
Well, now that you know about my releases in both 2017 and 2018 so far, I want to tell you all something very special to me. Nine months ago, I started working on two projects (as I mentioned earlier). Both of which I have had various issues with, but they are very special. I first started writing poems for an album. A full-length album that I was going to release months ago. But then I had an idea to turn this album into a new book. And doing so was going to take a lot of time and patience and editing and all of that fun stuff. So naturally the album got put on hold for a while, even though I had already recorded two tracks.
During the entire process I've grown to be very overwhelmed and anxious due to the fact that I was working on two projects, balacing my mental health, taking care of my sick mother, and of course, working. I've taken several breaks from writing, editing, recording, etc.. With that being said, I had to make a very difficult decision. I was either going to stop working on the album completely, or shorten it from an album to another EP. Knowing me, I couldn't just give up on something I'd already started working on. So instead of recording a full-length album, I did decide to shorten it into an EP.
I am very excited to FINALLY announce that my new EP is finished and will be released next month. And my book will be out early - mid 2019.
As some of you may know, garettsharp.com was temporarily unavailable for approximately four days. During this period, we were working on making some major improvements to the way the website works. As of today, garettsharp.com is now much more secure and stable. We have enabled SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). This means that any data that passes through the website is now encrypted and will remain private. We’ve made this change simply because we always want your information to be protected and safe. We don’t collect or save any of your information unless specified otherwise. This also means that the Garettsharp.com store is now more secure and seem less than ever. Instead of being redirected to a hosted server for checkout, you are now kept on the secure domain.
We have also upgraded the website to handle our new newsletter system. You can now sign up to receive the official Garett Sharp Newsletter. This way, you’ll never be left behind on any new things I’ve been working on. And don’t worry, we won’t spam you or send any more than 5 emails per month.
Due to these brand new systems, maintaining the website is a bit more expensive. So if you could, please send us some supportive messages or buy/download something from the store. If you can’t, that’s okay too. Your support is still greatly appreciated. We just want to make the experience as simple and seemless as possible.
With that being said, I’m extremely proud to announce that I have began working on my second complete poetry book. I’ve been dropping hints on my social media platforms, but today I can finally say that I am indeed working on something new for you lovely people. While I previously announced that I was also working on a new spoken word album, I plan to continue work on that while writing my new book. However, my main focus as of right now is completing this collection of poetry.
You can expect to see previews from my upcoming book all over my social media profiles, hidden throughout the website, and of course right here. I plan to have this book completed early 2019 as I am still in the beginning stages of the writing process. The title of the new book is going to be Face The Ignominy. I have chosen the title because the poems encased in the book are ultimately about the hardships I've faced, and overcoming the vulnerabilities of being open with the things that I am most shameful about. Ignominy simply means public shame. And there are stories within this book that tell the raw, undeniable truth about my life and how I've dealt with loss, mental illness, and more.
I am pleased to announce the new changes that have been implemented as well as the changes that are coming to the shop.
As of today, the garettsharp.com online store no longer charges sales tax. I have taken many things into consideration about making my books more affordable and making sure everything is done as it is supposed to be. I came to the conclusion that it is better that there are no taxes added at checkout for both myself and those of you who are using the shop page.
New changes to shipping have also been implemented. Before, we were only shipping products to the following states in the U.S.
A few additional changes will be added over the next month or so that greatly improve the overall experience.
I plan to:
Stay tuned for more information regarding the website, store changes, new books/albums, and so much more!
